Our 2025 Kitesurfing Safari Locations On Egypt’s Red Sea

From butter-smooth, sand-bottomed lagoons to uninhabited islands with waist-deep water, the archipelago that we sail through is rich with world-class kitesurfing and wing foiling spots. Accessible only via our yacht, all of the locations and downwinders on a Dragonfly Kite Safari are pristine—this is Egypt’s island paradise and it’s ours to explore.

The islands are reached after a three-hour northern sail from Hurghada. Once we arrive at the islands, we are free to explore the Red Sea’s beauty, solitude, and perfect wind. During our kite safaris, our week’s kitesurfing itinerary is wide open. While most other kite-safari operators have to sail on a fixed itinerary, we are able to travel wherever conditions are best: an empty, kilometer-wide lagoon of waist-deep water, an island-hopping downwinder with dolphins, or an afternoon session off a tiny islet of sand. We are the experts of the Red Sea and deliver you to the most exclusive locations with the best wind—guaranteed!

Of the many islands we sail through, there are eight that provide some of the finest conditions and most exotic settings, and we have profiled five of them here to give you a deeper taste of what is in store for you exclusively on a Dragonfly Kite Safari—the possibilities in this area are near-limitless!

Not profiled here are three islands that we also go to as well as numerous downwind adventures—we keep these islands and downwinders offline in order to maximize your exclusivity and privacy with us. These are spots and downwinders that no other kite safari operations go to due to their lack of expertise, staff, and knowledge. Want to check out these secret spots and downwinders not described below? Easy solution: book now and join us!

Tawila Island

Tawila is a magical location and one of the first islands we reach. It now has an in-development hotel on the north side and special permission must be granted to kite here. Important note: For 2025, the government charges a substantial per day fee to visit Tawila, which is included in your base rate with us—no surprise fees with Dragonfly’s all-inclusive kite safaris! On the south coast, a slender finger of sand juts out, forming a perfect bay of knee- to waist-deep turquoise water. We anchor a a few hundred meters offshore—you’ll be on the island and kiting in mere minutes. The wind is offshore here, which keeps the water glassy-smooth. As is the case at all of our kite spots, the support zodiac is at the ready to help out if anything goes awry.

North and South Geisum Islands

The Geisum Islands offer an incredible kiting playground with numerous flat-water spots and reef-protected lagoons with offshore winds. There are four main spots on these two islands—all of them pristine and shallow. One of our favorite sessions from here is an epic 90-minute downwinder from South Geisum to Tawila: we quest across the open sea before hugging the shallows of Tawila’s shoreline while the zodiacs follow behind. Downwinders don’t get much better than this!

Ashrafi Island

Ashrafi is the furthest north island in the archipelago and home to an absolute gem of the area: a massive waist-deep lagoon with reefs sheltering the water from the wind, resulting in dream-like perfection. The butter-smooth shallows, the deep water perfect for jumping and foiling, and the multi-kilometer size (plus the option of an upwinder to the lighthouse or a downwinder all the way to South Geisum) makes Ashrafi a kite-safari highlight for everyone from beginners to advanced riders.

Abu Mongar

A wonderful spot for a final day of kiting if the wind is strong enough, Abu Mongar is renowned for its low-tide sandbar that forms a perfect flatwater speed zone. Hug the sandbar and you can freeride rally the shallows like you’re in a video game! We will be close enough to see the lights of Hurghada at night but still completely isolated from the mainland.
